A decadent dessert featuring fluffy vanilla cakes layered with rich pastry cream and topped with glossy chocolate ganache.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup vanilla pastry cream
  • 1 cup chocolate ganache

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans to prepare them for the batter.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl for a light and fluffy cake.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy and light in color.
  4. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, and stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Combine the flour mixture and milk with the butter mixture, alternating until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cakes in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack and slice each cake in half horizontally.
  8. Spread a layer of vanilla pastry cream between the layers of cake, top with remaining cake halves, and pour chocolate ganache over the top.

Notes

Allow ganache to set before serving. Pairs well with whipped cream and fresh berries.
