A decadent dessert with a warm, flowing chocolate center that is surprisingly simple to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Vanilla ice cream (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust them with flour.
  2. Melt the butter and chocolate chips together in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals until smooth.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, egg yolks, and granulated sugar until thick and pale.
  4. Combine the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture until blended.
  5. Add the flour and salt, mixing gently until just combined.
  6. Fill the ramekins with batter about three-quarters full.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-14 minutes.
  8. Cool for 1 minute before inverting onto plates and dusting with powdered sugar. Serve with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

For best results, do not overbake the cakes; they should be soft in the center.
