Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Mix warm water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture, and knead until smooth.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. Bring 8 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda.
  6. Divide the dough into small pieces and shape them into pretzel forms.
  7. Boil each pretzel in the water solution for 30 seconds, then place on a baking sheet.
  8. Brush the pretzels with melted butter and sprinkle with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let cool before serving.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh, stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or frozen for a month.
